Tanya’s Update
22/11/09
We were at the MACSA centre all day today. The first game was at 10.30 which was played by Vikings Blue. There was a group doing free 10min massages and the boys (and supporters) were taking advantage of the opportunity.
For some reason the Vikings Blue team head’s were not in the game and so lost 2-8. Caleb scored the first goal after the goalie fumbled Lucas’s attempt this brought the score to 1-3. There were several near misses for our guys but at half time the score was 1-4. Lucas then scored in the last two minutes of the game which ended the game at a 2-8 loss. Some of us had watched the team they were playing against in a game last night and I really thought that our guys would have had a chance if they were playing their top game.
The Gold team had to wait some hours for their game but finally it came their turn. They had missed the opportunity for their game yesterday against another team due to the forfeit so they went out on the court really pumped and it would seem, ready to prove a point. The game was fast right from the word go and they really had it all together, defence was good, passes were great, teamwork was the best that I think we have seen out of this team the whole tour so far. In the 5th min of play Jeremy scored from a dot shot penalty which gave them a 1-0 lead and the confidence to continue. Then in the 8th min Mitch scored followed by Kai who scored after Daniel’s attempt was fumbled by goalie and he chipped it over the goalie from the back post (this is an attack strategy that they have been taught here and the boys have scored a lot of goals and near misses using it). Daniel scored a textbook goal after a pass in from Kai. Mitch scored just befo9re halftime making the score 5-0. They were on fire. After halftime the opposition scored 2 goals very quickly but Daniel closed the gap further followed by a goal from Carlin. Then Daniel scored yet another goal from a beautiful pass from Carlin. They really were playing the strategies that they have learnt over the last week perfectly the whole game through. The game ended with a 8-4 win. The boys were pretty happy. This was our last game of the tournament, we were hoping for more games but because of other teams pulling out of the comp we didn’t have as many as we would have liked. We also only found out today that the games against the MACSA teams on Tues & Weds nights had also counted in points for the tournament. The boys were a bit dissappointed that they didn’t make it to the finals. Some are going back to watch the finals tonight (or so they say, I think some are going to chat up some of the local girls).
We are all looking forward to going to Alcatraz tomorrow but it is going to be an early start and I think a very long day.
